What Is A Lace Wig?

Lace wigs are hair wigs that when worn properly look very natural and give the appearance that the wig hair is actually growing from your scalp. Not only are these wigs great for people with a full head of hair who just like to wear wigs but they are also a great non-surgical hair replacement solution for people suffering from hair loss due to medical or hereditary reasons. There are actually two versions of these wigs: Lace Front Wig and Full Lace Front Wig. Lets explore the difference:

Full Lace Front Wig

An authentic full lace front wig also known simply as a full lace wig is a hand made full head wig that is made from real human hair that is tied to a lace mesh base.  There are no machine sewn wefts of hair but rather each strand of hair is hand-tied to the  lace base. The significance of this is it allows the hair to flow freely and allows you to part the wig in any direction. The lace mesh cap is made from either Swiss or French lace. When you receive the wig it will have lace extended from the cap base that you trim back to your own hairline. The lace is very sheer so that when placed against the skin it will appear to melt into the skin giving the illusion that the wig hair is actually growing out of your scalp. Full lace wigs are very versatile and the hair can even be worn up in a high ponytail.  Full lace wigs can be customized to your individual head measurements.  You  secure the wig to your head by using special wig adhesive which can be in either liquid or tape form. When secured properly the wigs can be worn for weeks without removing them.

Lace Front Wigs

Lace front wigs are also full head wigs. They differ from full lace wigs in that only the front portion of the wig is hand-tied or handmade. The front portion of the hair will be hand-tied to a Swiss or French lace mesh base just like the full lace wig with extended lace that you trim back to the hairline but the back portion is made using hair wefts which are machine sewn to a stretchy lace material. Lace front wigs cannot be worn up in a high ponytail or other up-do styles like a full lace wig and they also do not have the unlimited parting versatility due to the wefted hair in the back. Lace front wigs do not require wig adhesive to secure the back portion of the wig....the adhesive only needs to be applied to the front. Lace front wigs are less expensive than full lace wigs but full lace wigs are more popular due to the unlimited styling versatility that they offer.

Custom And Stock Lace Wigs

Both full lace wigs and lace front wigs can be customized or you can purchase an already made stock unit. Stock units usually come in either small, medium or large size. The size of the perimeter of your head will determine the stock size you need to purchase. Custom wigs are the best option if you do not need the wig in a hurry. It takes on average 4-5 weeks to make a custom wig but you get full control of how the wig will look. There are many custom options you can select with a custom wig such as: hair color, hair texture, hair type, hair length, highlights, hair density, etc. With a custom full lace wig you will need to provide 6 head measurements....this is not required with a custom lace front wig because unless you just have an unusually large or unusually tiny head, one size will usually fit all due to the stretchy lace cap in the back which should also have adjustable straps.
